Dreams for Swirls

Buying an ice cream is not only about the ice cream. It’s a treat from begin to end. In the master course ‘integral design project’ I designed a new ice cream beverage for Swirls.

Me and my team (Stephen Boom, Vera Brands, Jeroen Harthoorn, Abbie Vanhoutte, Remko Verhaagen) started with analysing the company, and its customers. Goal of this project was to design a new beverage that fits Swirls. This let to our concept ‘Dream’, which is patented now by Unilever.

Dream
Dream is a beverage that combines a hot fluid (e.g. coffee, hot chocolate) with cold ice cream. These two elements are combined in a special ‘dream cup’.

When a customer buys a ‘dream’ at the Swirls counter, the sales person poors coffee or hot chocolate in a cup. After that the cup is closed with a special lid in which ice cream can be draft. These two elements are connected by means of a little hole in the bottom. This makes the fluid move upward on the ice cream, while ice cream is draft. A lolly pop spoon with some caramel gives the finishing touch.

The customer can drink, eat, play with this beverage. Maybe we will see it some day at the Swirls counters.
